PREMISE
Dolli is a heavily sheltered religious girl, living in the UK. The way religion manifests in her is that she has a heavy obsession with angels and emulating them- or at least how she views them.
Her understanding of God & Heaven is fundamentally childish and often focused on aesthetics, but her worship is genuine and she attempts to embody the gentle, kind and forgiving characteristics
she imagines angels as having- though due to how sheltered she is, she is also incredibly shy.
One day, she comes across a website about magic. Originally, she is offended due to it being witchcraft but then she comes across an angel spell, which promised to allow the caster to see and
speak to angels, where they may then let the caster into Heaven to live with them. Unfortunately, the spell is fake and, instead of doing what advertised, it ends up opening a hole to Hell and
sucking the caster in. Dolli, not knowing this, does the ritual and ends up in the residential regions of the Hellworkers, the people who conduct the torturing of damned souls. This is where she
meets SKLBOY (placeholder name)- the son of a Hellworker and currently training to work alongside his family in torturing the dead.
SKLBOY also has a cousin named JAWKD (placeholder name). SKLBOY is a hedonist, who wants to help Dolli return to Earth so he can follow her and gain access to all of Earth's worldy delights (nu-metal CDs,
videogames, and fashion). Unlike SKLBOY, JAWKD is actually dedicated to his role as a torturer-in-training, but is helping Dolli regardless because she isn't meant to be there and to also prevent
his cousin from escaping to Earth. The issue is: Dolli doesn't even want to go to Earth that bad! She mainly is still tied up in her dreams of seeing angels and talking to them!
Will Dolli go home or go to Heaven?
Will SKLBOY escape to Earth?
Or will his cousin be able to keep him in Hell?
Who knows! I haven't finished the project yet!
LOCATION
Hell, in the world of Aiming for Angel, is an island surrounded by a sea of fire with a number of small isles off the coasts of its mainland. It is inspired mainly by the Hell of Paradise Lost,
with characters such as Sin and Death being included, but I made the choice to flesh out Hell further, having it separated into 7 princedoms with 20 total counties and the capital city,
Pandaemonium. There are also the Infernal Chiefs of Land, Sea & Sky, Pandaemonium temple staff (and personal staff of Lucifer), the Treasurers, and the Judge & Executioner, Alastor, who is
responsible for the execution of Hellworkers and demons who murder others of their kind -on the basis that Hell needs all the demons it can get.
The roof of hell is covered in Hellmouths, the children of Leviathan & the Hellhounds, who act as gateways to Earth but mostly just spit out objects that 'fell out of reality.' Due to this, most
major settlements in Hell are constructed under the larger Hellmouths. In the very centre of Hell's ceiling is God's Light, which appeared after the fall of man. It was placed by God to mock the
fallen angels as there is just enough coming through where they can see it, but never enough to feel it, much to the envy of fallen angels such as Beelzebub.

PREMISE
Out for Kicks is an animated short film (and discontinued comic continuation) focused on a group of friends hanging out in a corner shop. The locations within the animation
were inspired by the dense Walled City of Kowloon and New York bodegas. It was as a technical exploration of audio mixing, animation techniques, and writing as these were
skills I wanted to develop. This included creating my own 5 stage animation process to capture the look of the loose sketches I was creating on the sides of science revision
booklets back in Year 10 & 11 (2022-2023).
The first stage was to animate all the frames digitally in Photoshop.
Stage 2 was to then tape sketchbook paper to my drawing tablet, then turn off all the lights and work during the night in order to trace the digitally animated frames onto
the paper using fineliner.
Stage 3 was to cut down the frames and then scan them.
Stage 4 was to compile all of the scanned frames into Photoshop and move them into place.
Stage 5, the final step, was to then digitally colour all of the character frames. Background frames were left colourless due to time constraints.
The original concept was for a short film following 3 scenes: the friend group hanging out in a corner shop, a teenager in his room playing on GMod 9, and a group of party-
goers talking on a balcony while listening to a pirate radio station, waiting for the signal for where the party will be held. There was also going to be scenes of the city
throughout in order to portray that this was all happening at once in the same city, as well as show off its environmental design and audio mixing.
This then got cut down to only the friend group section, which was fleshed out into the characters also leaving the shop and heading out onto the Kowloon-inspired rooftops
through an abandoned classroom -which was also inspired by the Walled City of Kowloon, as it was documented that people would climb out of windows to go onto the rooftops as
they made travelling across the city incredibly fast compared to navigating the halls.
Even this was cut down to the minute long scene that was produced.
There were 6 main characters: Devin, Amari, Tara, Kellan, Isaac and Mr. Liáng Yínwěi. Devin, Amari, Isaac and Mr. Liáng did appear in the original incarnation of the friend
group section, while Kellan and Tara were pulled from designs for the party-goers.

PREMISE
Nimmo is a comedic animated short created for my Year 1 FMP. It was inspired by Dionysus-centred cults and the show Thermae Romae Novae, with stylistic inspiration from
Gorillaz, particularly G-Bitez, with the fusion of 2D and 3D animation, and was intended to be a single scene that would be for a potential TV show.
The plot is focused around Nimmo, a man from Neolithic France, who becomes the first man to discover alcohol. This discovery allows him to time travel to the future and inhabit
the bodies of drunk people in order to witness the influence his cult of alcohol will eventually inherit across the globe but also to see how alcohol culture functions and
developed, so he can bring back that knowledge to his cult as it develops throughout the series- similar to Thermae Romae Novae, where Lucius brings back his knowledge of
Japanese bathing culture and future technologies around bathing back to ancient Rome after travelling to modern (and sometimes historical) Japan. In the scene, he possesses
the body of a man named Judas, who is somewhat his descendant, really they were intended to look similar as a way to communicate to viewers that this was still Nimmo. Nimmo,
as Judas, then goes on to interact with Judas' girlfriend, Heather, and share a drink together -being Nimmesca, named after the man himself and featuring his hunting mask on
the bottle.
Originally, the short was meant to be longer, with Nimmo and Heather heading home but that got cut very early on. There were also meant to be crowds throughout the pub and even
dedicated scenes of drunk people messing around, even one of someone falling through a table, but they also ended up getting cut as I moved into animating the short, though
I did manage to keep the interactions Nimmo specifically had with some drunk people as he wandered over to Heather.
CHARACTER DESIGNS

These are the initial sketches for Nimmo. Nimmo is actually named after a copy of A Child's Garden of Verses by R. L. Stevenson, which had Nimmo printed on the side.
I had found the book in a box of donated supplies of collage materials, already cut up, and decided to stick it into my own book to preserve part of it as it had an inscription
inside to a girl named Mollie Phillips, who had won the book as a prize for picking the best bunch of wild flowers in a competition for children under 14. I did not care for the
other pages but I did not want to see that cut up.
Also, Nimmo was originally meant to be a white Mediterranean man as I wanted to make a character that looked kind of like me and the people I spent time with, as I, myself, am
part Mediterranran (broadly) and my mother grew up on the Mediterranean coast of France, so we often visited to see my grandmother, which allowed me to become familiar with the
general environment of those woodlands, beaches, mountains, etc. that informed the Neolithic sections of the project (and also familiar with the pain of stepping on pine
needles.) His race changed when I drew that third sketch as, while it doesn't come across in the scan, I had shaded him a bit darker than intended while trying to portray his
tanned skin, looked at it, and decided I liked him being a black character more. This would go on to inform the modern section of the project, which I am honestly thankful for
as I do like the designs I had made for Judas and Heather.
The clothing Nimmo wears was inspired by European festival costumes. In particular, Sardinian Boes from the Carnival of Ottana and Irish Mummers- though more Boes than Mummers.
The straw is derived from the Mummers, the use of animal furs and the animal mask is derived from the Boes (as well as bells but they never made it to the final design.) The
specific shape of the mask, though, is derived from the sanctuary knocker from Durham Cathedral. I live near it and have always viewed it as a cool symbol, so I decided to
include it. On top of the Mummers, Boes and the sanctuary knocker, there is a fourth inspiration for his clothing. Chinese Lion Dancers. I'm pretty sure that Chinese New Year
was close while I was designing him, which caused me to start seeing a lot of videos of lion dancing competitions. Not only are lion dances cool in general, and the performances
done in the competitions I was seeing online were insanely impressive, but the trousers that the performers wore to represent the legs of the lion struck me with their layers
of fur and fabric. This ended up informing the design of Nimmo's hunting outfit, with its layers of straw and fur, that can be seen as far back as the very first sketch.

Judas was largely inspired by the opium/vamp fashion that was very popular on social media at the time. I had gotten very interested in it as I love dark alternative aesthetics and subcultures, so it became a key influence in his design. Also, ITSV had just came out so, of course, Wiles/Earth-42 Miles was there as I also love the Spider-Verse films. I loved the idea of Judas being this guy who wanted to be seen as cool, even aloof, but is really a big softie -particularly when it comes to Heather, though he does try to hide it to some extent because he wants to impress her. They're, like, crazy in love with each other. Unfortunately, due to the plot of the short, you never really see that in the animation as he spends his time possessed by Nimmo, who doesn't talk because he doesn't know English at all, and also the design of his outfit changed due to time constraints. In the end, he kind of ended up just being a guy in a black hoodie instead of having those clearer alternative influences- though they're in the the animation tests.

Heather is entirely influenced by Aliyahcore and the associated Y2k imagery surrounding it as I am a big fan of Aliyah's Interlude. So, her design carries most of the defining
element of the style, such as the revealing top, skirt, fishnets, ear muffs and the use of faux fur, wether as leg warmers or as part of the boot itself. This was in part chosen
not only due to my love of the style but also so that Heather would heavily constrast against Judas, which I continued into the design of her face and body. For example, Judas'
eyes (when not possessed) are meant to be half closed, seen in similar characters I would make later like Kellan, with a downturned nose. In comparison, Heather has wide, open
eyes and an upturned nose -the opposite of Judas. I also decided to give her a :3-shaped mouth in order to make her look generally joyful and cute, but also because I believed it would
help her lips look fuller, even compared to Judas or Nimmo- though in the final animation. She also was the first character I had ever given a defined waist- which I use all the
time now, even for depictions of myself! Sometimes, I wonder what my art would look like if I had never made that choice.
Despite her wearing fishnets and having a patterned skirt, she wasn't actually any harder to animate compared to other characters as I had decided to use the 'Chowder/ Method'
(making her pattern its own layer and just clipping it to the necessary sections instead of redrawing it to match as she moved around.)
ENVIRONMENTS
Originally, there were meant to be 2 environments for the animation: the Neolithic Grassland and the Pub Interior. The grassland was meant to be based on the environments I
was used to in Southern France but ended up getting scrapped as I struggled to model anything and there wasn't a wide variety of free models online that I liked and matched the
more general appearance of the region to make up for that.
The pub was based on the one in my village, which was often rented out for parties when I was a kid. I was rather dependant on free models and textures, but I managed to model
the layout, stage, shelves and counter myself. I also modeled the threshold between the dance floor and the carpet myself. God knows why I did that, it is tiny. I also managed
to create the fabric cover of table myself.

AESTRO

PREMISE
Aestro is a short animation (and a short film/series currently on haitus for the foreseeable future) focused on two characters, Aestro and Malikai. Aestro is a super powered
android girl developed in secret as a weapon -notably, she lacks the ability to feel at all. Malikai (or as he was originally known, Reggie) is a regular guy who discovered
Aestro on accident. He tries to help Aestro even though she doesn't really need any support, allows her to stay in his home and Aestro considers him a friend. Unfortunately,
Malikai has an unrequited crush on Aestro, which was meant to represent the issues I was having dealing with unrequited love due to being a gay guy who constantly ended up
crushing on straight men.
The animation itself is just a looping gif of Malikai leaning in to kiss Aestro, only for her to turn away to shoot a laser at someone off screen, accidentally hitting Malikai
with her hard metal head.
CHARACTER DESIGNS
My early Aestro designs were... bad. And, to be honest, I don't know what was happening to my style at the time where it looked like this, but I don't like it. Fortunately though, making a mistake as bad as the early designs for Aestro did spark my current love for art critique as it was the first time my work was properly critiqued, especially by a professor, and the resulting design was pretty good compared to my art at the time (though it is also no longer the current version of her design.) The critique from my professor basically boiled down to 'this looks like a human, not a robot' and he sort of set me up to make a new design. Honestly, the worst part of leaving college and not immediately entering uni has been that I don't have professors and peers in order to give me the very honest critique he gave me.

There isn't a lot of notes about the design of Malikai as he was just taken from a previous, older, series of drawings I did (I believe I had called it The Rooms) who was then redrawn into the new iteration of my style. But I do have this sketch of him with Aestro- I believe this is the oldest one of him in the (more or less) current style:
ANIMATION TESTS

AESTRO VS. CHODORAH
Aestro VS. Chodorah is the previously mentioned 'on-haitus' project. It was meant to be an animated series/short film modeled off of Kaiju films, with Chodorah himself being
heavily inspired by Kaiju like Godzilla. I had some mood boards for it, a new design for Aestro, a basic script and some concept art of Chodorah. But it basically ended after
that because I got sick and ended up not working on art at all for months. So, here is some of the concepts and tests I had made for it:
